St Andrew’s AC played host to this year’s Meath Novice in honour of the 60th anniversary of the club. The races were held at nearby Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre which made for a great cross country course – lots of humps and bumps and few slopes as well, lovely and dry though with super organisation throughout.
The Juveniles were out first as usual and did such a superb job in every single race that the grown-ups took to the start line hoping the kids were too busy with their 99’s to notice if the seniors didn’t match their achievements!
Laura Buckley kept the side up however, running a fantastic race throughout in the Ladies 4K novice. Laura led the field right from the start and there was never any doubt at all about who would take gold in this race. Well done Laura!
Next up for the team was a real XC -novice, Ciara Devitt, showing great form to finish her first championship race in 4th position, brilliant stuff Ciara! Roisin Bell made up the trio, coming home in 10th position, with Dunboyne AC Ladies Team winning silver.
The Men’s 6K novice was up next, and unfortunately the club were one man short of a team. Nonetheless the lads put on a great performance amidst stiff competition. Morgan McDonagh was first home for the club, having run a strong race with the leaders in sight throughout. Next was Gerry O’Reilly running strongly but and managing a very respectable 9th position. Stephen Griffin completed the trio, looking comfortable throughout.
Thanks to St Andrew’s AC and well done to all.
