Club secretary Keith Eglington along with chairman Michael Cornyn met with Minister for Health Leo Varadkar last week as he was attending Dunboyne Senior Primary School to award the school its new Healthy Ireland flag.
Minister Varadkar is an enthusiastic runner who’s made the trip to Dunboyne on previous occasions to take part in the Donboyne 4 Mile Road Race. On this occasion the minister was delighted to hear about the club’s advancing plans to upgrade our facilities to a tartan track.
Dunboyne Junior Primary school (as well as other schools in the village) benefits from regular use of our current track so the future looks bright for local school children as well as club members when the upgrade is completed (and paid for) in 2016. We hope that regular access to our athletic club facilities has contributed to the school’s winning of this fantastic accolade.
Having Leo Varadkar’s enthusiastic support for the project is a great boost to the volunteer base who are working tirelessly to bring this about, and the award for the school’s Healthy Ireland flag was an appropriate and fitting venue for the discussion. We look forward to inviting Minister Varadkar to try out a few laps of the new tartan surface this time next year.
